X-Plane 10 Flight Simulator - Windows and Mac

  • Super accurate flight characteristics using a virtual wind tunnel
  • Includes 30 aircraft, from gliders to the Space Shuttle
  • Online flying with other virtual pilots
  • Air Traffic Control actually controls the other aircraft around you
  • Detailed terrain for the whole world including very accurate altitude data

X-Plane 10 is the latest version of a nearly 20 year series of high realistic simulators. At its core is a virtual wind tunnel that creates the most realistic flight modeling available on a desktop. Equally capable of simulating every type of aircraft, the virtual pilot is able to experience the challenges of flying big airliners or tiny ultra-light aircraft. The realism of X-Plane 10 is proven by the fact that X-Plane is used as a certified training tool. Created from many real world databases you will see almost all roads and built-up areas exactly as they are around you. The completely new rendering engine shows the world around you in high detail and with global illumination so lights behave like real lights. Air Traffic Control will guide you from startup to shutdown and also controls the other aircraft around you. Those other aircraft are not robotic as they are in other simulators, but they interact with the world in the same way as your own aircraft does. They will fight the sa

I enjoy this flight simulation for various reasons even with its many faults, March 3, 2013

I have x-plane 10 and use the 64-bit version. I also have x-plane 9 but don’t like it much compared to version 10.
To me the differences between 9 and 10 are quite noticeable. If you are interested in purchasing version 10 I would recommend keeping a few things in mind before you buy it.

First, I think X-plane 10 has fantastic night lighting which was not present before x-plane 10. Version 10 uses a new system of lighting called dynamic lighting. Any light from a plane or street light will light up the ground, buildings, cabin as would a light in the real world. The graphics are little better in 10 than in x-plane 9 but still X-plane graphics are lacking.

Second, something the documentation/advertisements for X-plane 10 will not say is that it is not complete or truly ready for market. It is in an on-going beta testing state. There are no buildings for airports or any major man-made landmarks but add-on airports and buildings can be imported into the game for free or for purchase. Some roads are missing, buildings flicker (in the daytime) and some landmarks are just plain misplaced. If you enjoy tinkering with a program to make things “better” rather than having everything streamlined you may like x-plane 10. However, if you would like to have the game already polished you will not find that in this version of x-plane.

Finally, you will want to have the mind-set that the cities out of the box (without add-ons) are not realworld cities as you might see in Microsoft Flight Simulator. In my opinion the cities look somewhat like a Simcity game city but to me it’s neat to see cars, signal lights and street lights without a huge hit on frame-rate. Water also looks quite good in X-plane.

If you are new to x-plane I would recommend downloading the demo version before you purchase it and viewing YouTube videos for X-plane 10. (FYI, the demo version does have airport buildings but there are none found at any other airports as I mentioned above). Overall, as a beta flight simulation X-plane 10 is a great simulator.

Vendor is good- product disappointing, February 22, 2013

No fault with the vendor on this one. Product arrived on time and in good condition. The X-Plane itself is hard to use- very complicated. We thought that with so many DVD’s it would have outstanding scenery but it is so bad that it completely distorts the flying experience, particularly with a small plane which you navigate using landmarks. Also button “F13” is supposed to start the shuttle engines. My keyboard, built especially for games, has no such button and I can’t find a keyboard that does.

I bought the software to go along with my brand new computer and it dosn’t work. The framerate is extremely slow and all the terrain is missing.I don’t know why this is happening. it was so bad, I had to resell it on Amazon because it was just sitting on desktop and taking computer space.
