This is an excellent Bluetooth keyboard that has a lot of features built in. It has a rechargeable lithium battery that you can charge with your computer’s USB port or with any USB AC wall charger that you own. It has a nice tilt up backrest and an iPad slot so you can set your iPad into a tilt mode and make it look like a mini laptop. Before you use the keyboard for the first time you should charge it and it may take up to 4 hours to charge for the first time. You can charge the keyboard with your computer’s USB port or with any 5 VDC USB AC wall charger you own. The LED charge light will turn red while the keyboard is charging and it will go out when it is fully charged. If the battery becomes low it will blink to indicate that it is time to recharge the battery.

The battery is a rechargeable lithium battery that will last for 3 years. It has an uninterrupted working time of 100 hours with the backlighting turned off. The standby time is almost 300 days and don’t forget there is a power switch that you can turn off to conserve the battery life. After the initial charging it should take about 2 hours to recharge the internal battery.

The keyboard has a magnetic latch that allows the keyboard to quickly attach to the side of your iPad. The back of the keyboard is aluminum and it matches the iPad. It is a very thin design and it looks very nice when attached to the iPad and closed. When it is connected to an iPad 2 the overall weight is 1 pound and 15 7/8 ounces. The keyboard also has magnets in it that will put your iPad into the sleep mode or wake it up when you raise the keyboard off of the iPad. (Please see my video) The keyboard features a wireless Bluetooth connection to your iPad and the pairing process is fast and easy. I show how to pair it in my video. The working range of the Bluetooth is about 33 feet.

The keyboard features a very nice backlit light that can be set in any one of 7 different colors. (Please see the video) when you press the lighting button once the light comes on, the second time the backlight increases in brightness and when you press it a third time the backlight goes off. With the backlight on the operating time of the keyboard is about 4 hours. The lights can be white, yellow, purple, aqua, red, green and blue. In my video I only show the keyboard light in the low mode.

    What’s in the box?
    * The keyboard that weighs in at 10 ¾ ounces
    * There is a charging cable that is 32 inches long.
    * A set of four rubber stick on feet.
    * A brief instruction manual.

The keyboard is very nice and the letter keys and the shift keys are larger than they were on older styles of Bluetooth keyboards. They have made the top row of specialty keys smaller as well as the arrow keys to allow more space for the keys that you use the most. Remember that the auto capitalization, double space for a period and the auto spell functions do not work when you are using the keyboard as opposed to typing on the iPad’s virtual keyboard. The top row of specialty keys are home, photo slide show, search, keyboard style, cut, copy past, skip back play/pause, skip forward, mute volume, volume down, volume up and lock the iPad. If you stop typing for a few minutes the keyboard will go to sleep to save battery life and you only have to touch any key to turn it back on. Wait a second or two before you begin speed typing.

This is a very nice keyboard with a lot of features and I rate it as a 5 star item.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

This review is from: New SHARKK Apple iPad Mini Backlit Keyboard Case Bluetooth Keyboard Ultrathin Cover Stand 7 iPad Keyboard Backlight Options For New Mini iPad With Smart Cover Function (iPad mini Backlit, Black) (Office Product)

As was doing more and more organizational work on my iPad Mini, I started to look into some options for a mobile keyboard to be able to work more away from my desk.

After lots of comparison reviews, I decided on the Sharkk keyboard because of the backlight option and good reviews. After testing it for a week, I’m still happy with my purchase.

    Pro:
-Sturdy build quality. Doesn’t feel like a cheap product.
-Keyboard key spacing. Spacious, comfortable layout even though it’s a small keyboard.
-Strong cover magnet. Hangs securely from hinge like any other Apple Smart Cover
-Cover is stylish. The back of the keyboard looks nice and slick as a cover for the mini. From the side, it looks almost like a tiny ultrabook.
-Backlight Colors: Nice variety of color options, including my favorite teal.
-Shortcut keys! Easy to control music, brightness, and more with pre-programmed function keys.

    Cons:
-While overall the key layout is great, I do wish the apostrophe had it’s own dedicated key instead of being a function combo.
-I wish there was a magnet in the slot to secure the mini to the keyboard while typing on my lap or other uneven surface.

This keyboard is excellent for desk/stable surface typing. I can definitely see myself taking keyboard this with my mini iPad for light business and leaving my laptop at home. I think with a a light mod of addining in some smart-cover-ish magnets to the slot, this baby will be great for all terrain work on the go.

Excellent product at a great price, August 2, 2013

This review is from: New SHARKK Apple iPad Mini Backlit Keyboard Case Bluetooth Keyboard Ultrathin Cover Stand 7 iPad Keyboard Backlight Options For New Mini iPad With Smart Cover Function (iPad mini Backlit, Black) (Office Product)

The new Sharkk keyboard for the iPad mini is very well designed and built. It feels like a quality product in your hand, and is easy to use.
In my opinion, it provides some very stiff competition for the Logitech “Ultrathin Keyboard Mini” sold in Apple stores for $80.00. By comparison, the Sharkk sells around $33.

My biggest complaint with small keyboards is the layout of the keys. To fit the footprint of the iPad mini, compromises must be made. Either keys are moved around, or have to be shrunk. On the models that have chosen to shrink the keys, I find it impossible to type, with my average-sized fingers.

Therefore, I’m fan of the models that have kept a reasonable size and spacing of keys, and moved some of the “end of row” keys to other locations. Both the Logitech and Sharkk have gone this route, and both do it well, but make different trade-offs. On the Shark, as others have mentioned, some of the punctuation keys are not where you expect to find them. The spacing allowed by this relocation of keys allows for smooth, easy typing of text, followed by a slight pause while you try to find or re-find the needed punctuation key. Again, i think this is a worthwhile trade-off, far preferable to shrinking all the keys, which makes touch-typing impossible for anyone with normal-sized fingers. The Logitech, by comparison, keeps some of the punctuation keys in the right place, but makes them into half-sized keys, which take time to get used to.

The Sharkk has the added benefit of backlighted keys. Very helpful when working in any low-light situation. I also found that the Sharkk’s magnetic hinge that attaches to the Mini is quite a bit stronger than the Logitech’s. Another point in Sharkk’s favor. On the slightly down side, the Sharkk doesn’t seem to automatically establish a bluetooth connection with my Mini each time I use it (as the Logitech does). Rather, I have to push the “connect” key on the Sharkk, and sometimes have to go to “Settings” on my mini to complete the process. Not a big deal, just a small inconvenience.

On the other side of the coin, I believe the Logitech is SLIGHTLY thinner, and a slightly more snug fit against the Mini when acting as a cover. The Logitech also has a magnet within the angled groove that helps to hold the Mini in place. This is a nice touch, but not a big deal.

Other than that, the differences between these two comes down to personal preference about the placement of keys that had to be relocated. I think they both made choices that are easy to navigate as a typist, and, with practice, easy to remember.

While I really like both keyboards, it’s pretty hard to beat the $33 price tag on the Sharkk, particularly given its high build quality, nice key layout, and lighted keys. I’m sure there are many good keyboards out there, but it’s hard to go wrong with this latest model from Sharkk. It’s definitely a winner.
