Buyer beware, especially for system builders: this isn’t the retail install DVD. This is the “CPU Drop-in DVD,” which can only be used on a system running OS X 10.5 Leopard to upgrade it to 10.6 Snow Leopard.

EDIT: as of 11-21-12 apple has (again) started selling this software on their website. Im assuming its in response numerous calls as to why they cant upgrade itunes. At the time of this review, the 1 star rating wasn’t for the product itself but for this re-seller extorting consumers (he was charging close to $60 as opposed to $20 directly from apple). Rest assure that the software is 5star. My original review is below /END EDIT.

I’m pretty positive as to why your here.

You eagerly waited for the iphone 5. You finally got it and now you want to sync all your stuff from itunes into your new Iphone 5.

Lo and behold you get a stupid message saying your itunes isn’t compatible with your OS (your probably running 10.5.8 or lower).

You do your research only to find that amazon and ebay has the OS you need (10.6.8). The disks average $60-$100!!!

Long story short- in order to get this DVD for the cheap price of $22, you must CALL 1800-my-apple. DO NOT CALL an actual apple store and Do not try to order from apple.com (neither place will have what your looking and will direct you to a re-seller).

The wait time over the phone took me about 30 mins but its better than paying a jacked up price. Also the shipping from apple is lightening fast. THIS IS A NO BRAINER HERE.

Secondly- once you get the disk. YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE TO UPDATE from 10.6 TO 10.6.8 (ITS FREE AND CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM THE APPLE SITE!) After you download 10.6.8, you will be able to download the new itunes.

Received USB Drive, Not DVD, August 19, 2011

When I purchased this product, I read that OSX 10.5 and a DVD-ROM was needed. I really thought I was getting a DVD…like in a box, like the photograph. I got a USPS package with a jump drive in it. No packing slip, no instructions in the package, just a USB stick in an envelope. I was expecting the delivery, so I figured out what had happened and inserted the USB drive with my fingers crossed.

I had some trouble, but contacted the seller and he did give me good advice on how to make it work. In the end…it worked.
