Feels like glass and works well with touch ID, October 21, 2013

I’ve recently looked into tempered glass protectors. I first tried iloome’s flexible glass. For it’s price if you’re looking for a very thin tempered glass screen shield I highly recommend it. But it was kind of difficult to install like any protector, and I don’t know if it was just my protector but it always had fingerprints and picked up oils quickly.

I decided to change it and go with the Glas.tR. Packaging wise, its great. Comes in a nice casing that can be used to store extra shields and such. For the price I paid of $21, it was a good deal, 1 glass shield, a back protector, alocohol pad for cleaning oil off the screen prior install, 6 mini gel home buttons (for the iPhone 5 and below) and a mini micro fiber wipe.

To pull off the “perfect” install I ran the shower in hot water to steam the bathroom to allow dust and hair to fall due to moisture. This actually HELPED a lot. There was no dust, hair, or lint after wiping down the phone. I suggest when you pull off the adhesive of the protector have it faced down just in case if any dust or hair fall on the adhesive side. I slowly aligned the protector and laid it on the phone lightly. From here I used my nail to push and align it. Once I aligned it perfectly I applied pressure in the center and it applied on by itself. I used my thumb to push out any bubbles. I started to get tiny bubbles on the corners and it wasn’t dust but after 10 minutes or so I pushed them out. But as the instructions mention, tiny bubbles would take a a few hrs or a day to go away.

Overall great product! Hardly any fingerprints catch on and if any they are easy to wipe off. The protector feels like glass and imo better than the actually phone. The curved edges seem to be case friendly. It worked with my Speck pixel HD, but I am currently using spigens Neo Hybrid in champagne.

    This product is a go!

SPIGEN SGP iPhone 5S / 5C / 5 Screen Protector Glass Slim [GLAS.tR SLIM] (0.4mm) Rounded Edges Glass Screen Protector Anti Chip for the NEW iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C and iPhone 5 (SGP10111)

I bought this to go with my Spigen Tough Armor case, and tried to time it so my iPhone 5s, case, and screen protector would arrive on the same day. It was well worth it. The phone was sealed and I had every intent to keep it that way until the GLAS.tR SLIM was installed.

I took my time wiping the screen down with a light source at an angle until I was satisfied there were no dust or dirt particles. Once the protector was set on the iPhone, at an angle, I let it settle on the screen under its own weight before applying any pressure with the squeegee. 2 bubbles on both sides of the home button were evident but with a little lifting to clear the bubbles and taking my time I managed to work them out.

Surprisingly, the install was a lot easier and simpler than most the reviews I read (and I read quite a few). My 2 main concerns were bubbles, and trapped particulates, and surprisingly neither occurred. The end result is absolutely stunning. I actually take pride in wiping down my phone every now and then just to keep it looking sleek.

I personally opted out of the home button stickers, and in all honesty, I don’t even see the point why you would put on a home button sticker, wouldn’t that interfere with the fingerprint recognition? I think it looks sexy without it.

And as stated I also use the Spigen Tough Armor case with my GLAS.tR and the fit is not an issue at all. The case and GLASS.tR fit seemlessly and beautifully.

*Update: Been using the Glas.tR on my iPhone 5s for a month now. Still no bubbles and surprisingly the oleophobic coating has held up. That’s the thin layer coating on the surface that keeps oils from staining and smudging. I had expected it to wear off but it’s been like this since day one. I wish they’d spray this stuff on my monitors and television screens lol.

Couple things I wanted to mention. This glass in thick, I’ve seen some of the plastic screen covers my friends use on their Galaxy’s and iPhones and this is definitely good quality.

Also after doing some research if your debating the Glas.t or the Glas.tR my recommendation is pay the extra for the tR. I was initially confused about the rounded edges but it makes a difference. Not just aesthetics, but it keeps the glass from chipping on the edges. On top of that, without a phone cover or TPU case it feels nice running your fingers on a edge and even with a phone cover my case wraps around it very nicely. Well worth the extra $10.

    Spigen GLAS.tR SLIM for iPhone 5s, November 16, 2013

So for those of you who don’t know, the GLAS.tr slim is a tempered glass screen protector for your smartphone. It is available for the iPhone 5/5s/5s, Samsung Galaxy Note 3/ S4 and the HTC One. One of the advantages to the glass screen protector is that you are still touching the beautiful and flawless glass. I have used many other screen protectors such as the spray on ones, thin plastic ones, wet apply ones, and privacy ones but this is by far my favorite. Your finger just glides across the screen like there is nothing there. One of the draw backs to a glass screen protectors is that they are thick. This can reduce your comparability with cases.

Lets move on to what you get on the box. You get the screen protector(duh…), six jelly home buttons( p.s. do not use with the 5s), back protectors, alcohol swab, squeegee, instructions, and a verification card.

Now the installation. This is the easiest application of a screen protector possible. The fact they the screen protector is inherently ridged, I was easily able to line up the screen protector and plop it down. The included alcohol wipe is great for getting any type of grime or grit off of the screen. Unfortunately this a one shot deal, once it goes on, you wont be able to get it off with out cracking the protector. Once it is on, you just push on the middle of the screen and you will see the adhesive stick to the phone. The back protectors are just plastic protectors for the two glass strips on the back and a nicer feeling matt clear protector for the colored metal bit of the phone. very easy to install and give a nice later of deference while letting your phones color to shine through.

Finally comes the durability and use. I have had the Glas tr on my iPhone 5 and it never cracked, even when I dropped it face down on my tile floor from about one foot. The only reason I had to buy a new one was because my iPhone 5 got water damaged and was unable to battle. Now let me get on to why I am even making this review. The day I got my 5s, I put the screen protector on, the next day I went to a show at the University of Michigan. on my way up the parking structure on the 3rd floor up to my car, my friend bumped into me and my phone slipped out of my hand… it did not just fall out of my hand and take a tumble down a few stairs, it hit the railing and slipped down the middle of the stairwell and smacked down to the very bottom floor. That is a 3 flight drop. the sound of it hitting the ground made my heart skip a beat. I sprinted down the stairs to find it face down on the floor. My knock off element case wooden case was broken off and a few inches away from my phone. as I lifted the phone I was expecting the screen to be totally shattered and my phone screen to be well damaged. when I rotated it, I saw that it was only the screen protector that took some damage with a chip on the right middle side of the device and only 7 cracks across the screen. the screen was still smooth with the exception of the chip. the protective film on the back of the phone protected it from a scratch across the apple logo and the bottom glass panel. If I didn’t have the screen protector on my phone, I would have been boned out of a phone for another couple of months.

Final Thoughts. Well this is the only screen protector I will put on my devices. The premium feel and protection are unrivaled; however so is the price. The Spigen glas.tr slim for the iPhone 5s will set you back $35 (USD at the time if this review) The price is well worth it in my eyes. i would much rather replace a $35 screen protector than replace a $150 screen. You can not go wrong with this purchase.
