Given the price, this is a very good scanner. It’s not without its faults, however, but it has been performing very well for me.

Setup is about as simple as it can be. The setup sequence is barcode driven, using barcodes provided in the user guide. All you need to do is go to the section for your operating system (e.g., XP, Win 7/8, Andriod, IOS) and follow the steps. The guide also includes barcodes for scanner functionality, such as keyboard language, offline mode (for when you’re out of bluetooth range) and others.

The downside, of course, is that its a major problem should you lose the guide with the setup barcodes when you need to change something. Fortunately, Inateck has a copy of the guide as a PDF on their website. I’ve downloaded it and have it stored just in case.

The scanner itself is lightweight. That’s good for minimizing arm/hand strain, but not so good with regard to being bumped about. Compared with other scanners I use, this feels far less durable (but, to be fair, it is also far less expensive). It has some rubber-like protection pads at the top, but those are rather thin. A more beefy approach to protection would have been nice.

The grip is pretty comfortable but it could use some non-slip pads on grip points since the plastic can be slippery with damp hands. The trigger has a light touch and the audible confirmation of a scan is clear without being annoyingly loud.

I do wish it had some type of clip or lanyard for carrying ease. I know there are holsters that you can buy, but I find those too bulky to use. A simple hook of some type on the scanner would have been a welcome addition. The scanner will not stand up on end, which makes having a clip (or better bump protection pads) even more needed.

The bluetooth pairing works fine, but since I need to use it over a wide area, I find it easier to scan and store in offline mode, then upload to a PC using the supplied cable. I dumped it to a flat file, then imported it into the software we use. Quick and simple process.

Scan accuracy is pretty good. Zero problems with pristine codes on flat surfaces. Read those 100% of the time. Curved codes were a bit more problematic, but it still read them most of the time on the first shot. Damaged/smudged labels were read most of the time as well, but it often took a couple of tries. Still, even compared with higher-priced scanners, I’d rate the scan accuracy as very good to excellent.

Although this is not suitable for a work site where it would get rough treatment, it is fine for the typical office or small store environment. Provided care is taken with regard to bumps and bruises to the scanner itself, the ease of use, accuracy and features make this well worth considering if you need a wireless scanner.

Cannot fault it for the money, January 7, 2014

I have to say I bought this based on the product description as I needed a scanner that would connect with my iPad and read different types of barcodes.

As a Medical Equipment Manager I needed to be able to scan different equipment barcodes. The scanner worked straight out of the box and connecting to the iPad was easy. The wireless scanner makes life easier because you can move the scanner around especially when you need to scan an item which is really heavy. Having a wireless scanner is way better than a wired one because you are able to scan all around your facility rather than sitting at one place.

So to sum up, this has made my life so much easier and has saved me loads of time. I highly recommend it!
