Purchased this and although we are keeping it, I am not very impressed with the locking mechanism as stated in other reviews. It really is a great idea, but the lock doesn’t really lock it at all, which allows for it to be taken off the mount quite easily. And if you live in earthquake country (like me) it makes me think it will pop right out of place… I also prefer the older style.

I’ve got two Mac Minis now mounted on the wall with this product, so I can tell you that it is possible. However, it was extremely difficult and had I known how much of a problem it was going to be, I might have simply made my own brackets to cradle the Minis. Some reviews I had read before I purchased these mounts complained that the screw that is supposed to secure the Mini to the mount isn’t secure enough to deter a thief, since you need only to remove the screw to “unlock” the Mini. That was okay with me since I’m not really concerned with theft, I just wanted to mount my Minis to the wall under a counter so they looked decent and wouldn’t fall off. I went ahead and ordered two mounts.

Shipping was fast and they arrived on time. No problem there. Then I tried to install these things. The screw that is in place to “lock” the Mini to the mount doesn’t provided enough clearance to actually attach the Mini to the mount. I encountered this with both mounts, both Minis. Tried switching each Mini with each mount to make sure one of them wasn’t just built faulty. Same problem with each pairing. In the process of trying to apply enough pressure to one of the Minis to get it to seat down on the mounting screws enough to turn it into place, the locking screw scratched up the aluminum on the back of the Mini. I was incapable of getting the Minis to mount at all with that locking screw in place. There just isn’t enough clearance without gouging out a bunch of aluminum with that screw. I tried loosening the screw and adjusting it a bit, but never was able to get it to clear.

In the end I resorted to removing the locking screw completely. At that point it was still a bit difficult to get the Minis to turn into the attached position, but I finally got them. This whole process took way longer than I anticipated, and I felt like I was putting an awful lot of stress on these two little $799 computers to get these mounts to work. And of course, without the locking screw in place, you only need to grab the Mini and turn it firmly counter-clockwise for it to come off. I feel like it is secure enough for me to leave them like this considering they are mounted out of reach under a counter and shouldn’t be bothered enough to fall off, but I would warn others of leaving them mounted this way without the locking screw in place if they are somewhere that people can get their hands on them.

So… If you want to mount a new Mac Mini to the wall, this thing will work. But it won’t be nearly as easy as it seems it should be and, unless I have two mounts or two Minis that are built differently than the rest, I can say that you will have to remove the locking screw to get them to work at all.

If it weren’t for the locking screw issue and the difficulty I had in installation I would give these five stars.
