Not great for heavier watch bands (Milanese Loop, Link), June 1, 2015

First let me say that I selected this watch stand due to it’s cable management. I always have cables running all over the place and the way the stand manages extra cable length is brilliant. Looks fine, cost reasonable, base is heavy no problem there.

However it does not play well with the heavier Link and Milanese loop stainless steel watch bands. If you position your watch horizontally as indicated in the photo the watch simply slides off the magnet and falls off. So you have to position it vertically. But that’s a problem since the watch bands don’t open, so it sits at an angle. Doing that some of the weight is removed as the band hits the back of the stand, but it just doesn’t look that great.

So I’d say it’s a 4 or 5 star if you have the right watch band. You may want to look elsewhere if you have a heavier band.

Griffin Challenges Stephen King for the best ‘Stand’, June 7, 2015
This review is from: Griffin WatchStand Charging Dock [Dual Stand] [Cable Management] for Apple Watch and iPhone (Accessory)
Some thoughts on the Griffin Apple WatchStand:

    – For me, its best feature is its heft–which is way/weigh(!) more than the competition (460 gms, or ~1lb 1 oz). This stand’s extremely stable; there’s no way/weigh you’re going to accidentally tip it or even move it appreciably during watch placement or removal. I couldn’t actually weigh the Mophie or the Nomad stands, but their retail boxes felt featherweight by comparison
    – Assembly’s a breeze and the whole enchilada’s well engineered with no screws or breakable tabs. Granted it’s plastic, but it’s nice plastic.
    – My Sport Watch feels secure and the rubbery charging puck holder grips well and won’t scratch anything.
    – The bottom’s covered in thick rubbery material with no tendency to slip even with considerable lateral force.
    – The charging cable (user supplied) is completely hidden, an aesthetic plus. The hidden winding post for extra cord’s especially clever too, though I personally need the full cable length.
    – I like the Griffin’s height (~6 3/4″) which elevates it nicely such that with the open Sport Watch strap draping down, it doesn’t touch the base. I’d never take the time to close the strap before charging it, so the closed-strap configuration Griffin pictured here doesn’t apply to me.
    – Your watch also perches readably above a horizontally oriented iPhone 5s or a 6 Plus, both of which sit with a slight angle on a built in lipped tray. While there’s no provision for a formal fixed iPhone dock, the cutouts on the rubber base allow you to snake your Lightning cable under the base and then off to the side, a relatively aesthetic arrangement which effectively corrals your cord for easy unified watch/phone charging.
    – Finally, at $29.99, it’s a relative bargain. The Mophie’s $59.99 and the Nomad $69.99
