I owned an earlier generation iPod and had a nice armband for it for use in working out. I mainly use my iPod when working out, or working around the house, so an armband is a great accessory. The Ionic Armband was featured when I bought my gen7 iPod, and it seemed like it would be what I wanted. It sort of is, but has several flaws. There is only one opening in the case, for the earphones. But, the hole is off-center and hard to get the jack into it. There are no openings or adaptations for the play/pause or volume controls, which I use quite a bit. It means I have to take the iPod out of the case or else guess a lot. The on/off button also requires guesswork to find. Last, the strap design is not logical like my previous armband. It fits awkwardly and is hard to adjust without stopping and fiddling. Who wants to do that when walking or jogging? I’m looking for a new one already. Save your money and do the same.

Not bad, but could be better, November 8, 2012

I am an avid runner, and after crushing my 6th generation ipod nano in a running accident, the timing was such that I had to replace it with the new nano 7th generation. I received the nano directly from Apple several weeks ago, and found out that nobody at that time had yet released a sports armband for it. Searching through Amazon, I found the Ionic ACTIVE Sport Armband was to be released November 1, 2012 so I went ahead and placed a pre-order. It arrived promptly from the vendor (great service, it actually arrived ahead of schedule) and I was ready to give it a try.

PROS: The armband is long enough to fit a man with decent – even average – biceps. It seems that many manufacturers assume that only women and rather lean men are going to use a sports armband. The Griffin nano armband is a perfect example of this problem; extremely tight even when let out all the way. The Ionic armband appears to be well made, very flexible, and is comfortable to wear. It does have a compartment for a key, but it must be a very small key (maybe a house key; certainly not a automobile key). The face of the armband is covered in plastic to protect your nano from the elements and from scratching. Access to the controls is a bit iffy, but I think that will be a problem with every armband, regardless of the manufacturer. All in all, not a bad armband.

CONS: Only one for me, and that is the placement of the hole for the headphone jack. The hole is in the lower back of the armband compartment, and not at the bottom (where the headphone jack is located on the nano itself). Depending on your headphones, this can be discomforting. I wear Polk sports headphones (very recommended), and the headphone jack is in the form on an “L” rather than straight, and that has caused a few issues. Just imagine placing the end of your headphone jack in the hole on back of the armband, and then pulling the hole down and under until it aligns with the socket on the bottom of the nano.

Bottom line for me, is that this is a good armband that could have been made ergonomically better. However, based on the other armbands that have been released to date, I would certainly recommend it.

I have used the armband case once since i got it. It is of good quality and has a good fit for the iPod Nano. The only thing I’m missing is the access to the power button. I usually “doubleclick” this button to change to the next song. This one is covered by neoprene and makes it more difficult. Generally a good product that I will recommend to my friends.
