Customer Video Review Length:: 6:06 Mins

This is a beautifully designed 7 port USB 3.0 hub that is powerful enough to power your devices and it has very fast speeds. The case is brushed aluminum with white or black plastic ends. It comes with a USB 3.0 cable that is 39 inches long. It comes with an AC power supply that has an AC plug cable that is 48 inches long and the power plug cable is 50 inches long. The power supply will operate on 100 to 240 VAC and 50/60 Hz with an output of 12 VDC rated at 3 amps so it can supply 36 watts of power for your USB devices. The power supply is one of the things that make this hub one of the best. It will adequately supply power for your USB devices while it also has a built in surge suppressor to protect your equipment.

The hub has 7 USB 3.0 ports on it that are also downward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices. Even though each port has accessible power you should remember that the data transfer speed is being shared with one USB 3.0 port from your computer. That means that the data bandwidth of 5 Gb/s is split across 7 devices and that is if you have a USB3.0 port to use. If you use a USB 2.0 port or a USB 1.1 port and then plug in USB 2.0/1.1 devices it will be even slower. That is not the fault of the hub but just the actual result of the technology’s capability.

I like that the hub has a power on/off switch so I could set up the hub and plug in my devices and then turn the hub on. All four of my memory storage devices popped up on my computer is less than 10 seconds which is very good. Each port has an LED that lights up to indicate that a device is plugged in and drawing power. This port is good for use with devices that require power from the USB port to operate and it is also compatible with devices like printers, scanners and external hard disk drives that have their own AC wall power source and require minimal power.

I ran a benchmark speed test with a USB 3.0 port on a very fast computer. I plugged in four items that all draw power from the hub. They were:

    * A USB powered HDD from a laptop that draws over 600mAmps.
    * A 32 GIG SD camera card
    * A 64 GIG medium speed thumb flash drive
    * And a high speed 128 GIG thumb flash drive.

This hub has enough power to safely power all of these devices and make sure that they operate at peak performance. Some hubs would fail in this regard and the memory devices would not write or read data properly due to lack of power.

In my speed bench mark test I was able to write to the high speed drive at 46.8 MB/s and it was able to read at 149.4 MB/s. That is an excellent result. The graph of the bench mark test is shown in the video review. This product is designed nicely, works well and is fast. I rated it as a 5 star item.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised to provide a fair and honest review.

Very sleek, premium quality aluminum USB 3.0 that simply works amazingly., October 3, 2013

    Product exterior –
-Finish – Compared with previous Anker products I’m very happy to say they got the finish on this one perfectly. The aluminum top has the right texture so it is not glossy, seems scratch resistant and doesn’t seem to get dirty easily. The silver matches Apple products and also countless other computers, such as the HP Envy 17 3D I have. The back and sides are a premium-feeling poly-carbonate or other plastic, but is soft, and also resistant to fingerprints. It’s actually very smooth and soft glossy but not sticky finish.
-The 7 port USB 3.0 hub in general is very sleek and stylish. The blue led lights are very nice and only bleed when looked from a 90 degree angle, which is to be expected. The spacing between the USB ports are about perfect at 7/8″ from the center of port 1 to center of port 2 and so on. Only my thick 1 1/8″-wide wireless adapter needed to be on the end which actually fit perfectly next to a thin microsd usb adapter. So basically everything will fit as long as you have a variety of sizes of usb devices. There are 4 quality-made rubber feet that will not come off and will protect this hub and surface of table. The power button has a very slight click but is not spring loaded as a push in/out one. However, it is very clear when you push it. When you power it on it loads up USB ports in reverse order, so 7, then 6, then 5, etc.. and very quickly under a few seconds.
-Thick high quality USB 3.0 Type A to Type B cable is 38″ long.
-Power Cord – The length is 51″ Power Supply to hub + 47″ 2-Prong cord without ground to AC Outlet, so that adds up to lengthy 98″ long power cord. **Keep in Mind that this Power Cord is REQUIRED. I know some older USB Hubs have Optional Power Adapters because of having enough power from Host USB but this unit will not work at all without the power supply.
-Size of unit. It is a bit large due to it’s design and do prepare to have at least 4″ of room behind the unit for the USB’s and connections. I think this design is quite ideal for USB devices that have cables but also nicely fits flash drives easily. There is another Anker USB Hub I would recommend if using only flash drives. Anker® USB 3.0 9-Port Hub + 5V 2.1A Charging Port with 12V 5A Power Adapter [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset and updated Firmware 9801]. Overall this hub is 8.5″ wide by 3.5″ deep by 1.125″ height.

Description of use – Installation – plug in power, plug in USB 3.0 Type B to Type A cable to a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port (which I confirm does work) Simply be online for first time for drivers to work which takes seconds and then it works perfectly giving you 7 USB 3.0 ports instead of just 1. My laptop has 4 USB ports, with this I now have 10 Ports.
Use – I love to use my laptop as a base for many premium peripherals. So This means my HP ENVY 17 3D is on a Zalman NC2000 NT (BLK) Laptop Cooling Pad with Pure Aluminum Panel (NC2000 NT (BLK)), connected to a Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer and then for USB devices my Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard (Black/Silver), Logitech G9X Programmable Laser Gaming Mouse with Precision Grips, and Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows “Official”. It gets very repetitive to disconnect and connect these 3 USB devices along with my speakers and power every time I take my laptop on the go so this hub has saved me so much time and effort by keeping all 3 of my USB devices connected to it and simplifying it to 1 USB connection. In addition I love having more USB Ports available now to connect all my flash drives, external hard drives, etc..
For anyone curious if this USB Hub reduces hard disk performance I have just verified that is absolutely does not with my 128GB Crucial RealSSD C300 and also a 1TB Seagate 7200RPM Barracuda 3.5″. I tested it on the Anker Hub and with direct connection to the computer and the speeds were identical. I used CrystalDiskMark software for this.

-When the computer that the USB Hub is connected to goes to Sleep or Shutdown, the Hub also goes to sleep with all the LED’s (except power) turning off. When laptop comes out of sleep or shutdown, the USB Hub turns on immediately and my keyboard and mouse (on the hub) work immediately without delay. This is very convenient.

Ideal users – Anyone looking for a USB 3.0 Hub with premium quality and design. This is for convenience, ease, access, performance, flexibility, etc… Remember, this is for USB drives. What’s USB stand for…

Great item, but doesn’t charge iPad, November 19, 2013

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

Great item, I did my research and I’m not disappointed. Well packaged, very well built and still stable and solid on my desk. The only downside is that it doesn’t charge my iPad, which is a bit of a shame.
