Reliable, Unique, and flexible AirPlay device, but requires technical knowledge to configure it for existing network use, December 14, 2013

The AirEnabler is pretty much the only reasonable and affordable way to convert any audio system/speakers into an airplay compatible device. I have looked everywhere for some sort of “airplay input to speaker output” device that didn’t have built in speakers and wasn’t a home theater receiver, and this seems to be the only option. It isn’t the most user friendly of devices and requires a bit of technical knowledge to configure outside of its default settings, but it works PERFECTLY.

Note that in the default configuration, this device creates an open wireless network that you the connect to with your iOS device. Once connected, your iOS will see AirEnabler as an Airplay speaker and let you stream music to it. This is the appropriate operation mode for in-car use of the AirEnabler. Since this device relies on your iOS device WiFi connection, you must then use a 3G/4G connection simultaneously to access the internet (to stream music from services like Pandora or Spotify).

If you plan to use the AirEnabler at home in this default mode and have poor cell phone reception, this could be a problem, since you can’t use your home WiFi network at the same time as the AirEnabler. If you are using a laptop computer or iPod Touch without a 3G/4G connection, you will lose your wireless internet connectivity. Fortunately, if you are using a laptop, you can plug in to a physical ethernet connection to maintain internet connectivity.

As a major bonus, you can configure the AirEnabler in two additional modes: 1) Connect to your own existing home wireless network and stream music to it over your that existing wireless connection, allowing you to maintain WiFi internet connectivity while using the AirEnabler (this depends on your home wireless router to provide a solid wireless signal to the AirEnabler); and 2) Connect an Ethernet cable to the AirEnabler and disable wireless functionality completely (this is the mode I use).

In order to activate these other two modes, check out the manufacturer’s FAQ page: […] (Knowledge of Telnet and command line usage is required).

Overall, this is an awesome device that is extremely flexible (with its 3 operating modes), and useful for anybody with a bit of computer knowledge.

Ideally, the three modes of configuration should be accessed with a simple external hardware switch and/or a Web-based configuration utility like a router. However, this product a utilitarian home-grown solution made of consumer parts by an individual hacker, so it is understandable that there isn’t the fit and finish of a manufactured product here.

Overall, the AirEnabler is an awesome, reliable, and unique universal bridge between AirPlay technology and normal audio components, filling a desperate gap in the current market.

NECESSARY CAR UPGRADE!!!!!, November 10, 2013

If you have a car with an Aux-in jack to your car stereo and an Apple mobile/handheld device, I firmly believe you NEED this product!!!! Need is a strong word, but for the many of us with cars older than a few years, that may not have the functionality of a seamless Bluetooth-A2DP connection, this upgrade for Apple device users is a GOD send! It LITERALLY takes 2 minutes to install, with NO need to ‘remove your dash’ or ‘re-wire’ your stereo, and you have BETTER-than-Bluetooth quality to enjoy! Bluetooth compresses the audio stream, where the Airplay functionality leaves the audio stream uncompressed and at whatever bitrate quality your digital music file was created at!

I also love the ability to let other people in my car (again, with Apple devices) DJ in my car without having to pass any wires around!!

I truly truly truly can’t recommend this product, OR this seller, more. I’m also raving about this product to all my friends!!!

If you’re looking for a SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE, and GENIUS product to upgrade your car, THIS IS IT!

Amazing quality wireless audio for your car for a extremely affordable price. Very cool having your friends fight over the music, December 12, 2013

Excellent and Portable piece of tech, perfect if you’re looking to upgrade a low end or even a high end audio system in your car.

I had two little issues with this item:
    1. Engine noise in my Mercedes when decelerating and
    2. A slightly inconvenient start-up delay (about 20 seconds).

Good news is you can cheaply fix both of these issues!
    1. Buy a $5-15 filtered AUX cable such as: Kensington Reducing SmartPhone including iPhone
    2. Buy a micro-usb portable charger and connect it in-between the device and the 12V connector in your car. $5-$20

I give this device 5 stars because it is incredibly cheap and works without any fuss. I’ve spent 2-3x as much on bluetooth solutions with much poorer sound quality. Thanks for the really cool device guys!
